How do I build a form to house content in Appbuilder?

Introduction

The Appbuilder Build Form is where you go to drag and drop the fields you wish to use on your publish forms. The order of the fields here will dictate the order on the publish forms presented to the end-user.

This will be where you go to to add fields to the entire Application. Fields which are created here will show throughout the entire application for data to be entered into (forms), or display values (columns).

Application pages such as this are accessed from the Admin menu and or through the Application Toolbox. For instructions on how to find this area please refer to the Application settings Tutorial which will show the different ways of accessing your Application settings.

Configuring your Build Form

Choose Build Form located in the Application Menu.

After selecting Build Form you should now be looking at the layout of the Build Form

The fields listed here will display when creating an Item via this Application.

To Add/Remove any fields from this layout simply drag and drop which fields you want to show to any section on the layout. The order in which the field shows here will determine the order on the layout as well, so a field showing at the bottom will show at the bottom when creating the Item.

Located in the Custom Fields section will be the different types of Fields you can also customize. Clicking the help Icon will display the description for each field type.

Located below the Custom Fields section will be the System fields section. These fields are used by the System and cannot be changed other than the Label.

After modifying your layout simply select Save and that's it! you have successfully updated your build form layout.

 

Field Properties

Each field type will have different settings that can be set. Clicking the edit iconediticon.jpg within the field will display the options related to that field type. Clicking the field label will also allow you to rename the field.

From within the options you will also be able to set if the field is required or not.

You can also remove the field by clicking the delete button deletebutton.jpg

 

Custom Fields

You can create as many custom fields as you need for your application.

By adding a custom field it will become a field in the add/edit input form and available to display on all of your application pages.

Available Field Types:

Textbox Your standard textbox accepts any value
Dropdown This accepts an unlimited number of options
Textarea A plain multiline text area
Html editor This is a rich text editor and accepts raw html as well
Number field Only accepts numbers
Phone field Only accepts numbers, parentheses, hyphens and spaces
Email field Only accepts proper emails
Link field Only accepts proper links
Date field Has an optional time field you can enable/disable from the edit menu
Validation field Allows regular expression validation on the field (advanced)
your regex expression will be altered to also accept an empty string

 

System Fields
These are special fields that have additional functionality and each can only be used once. By adding a system field it will become available on most of your application pages where appropriate.

You can differentiate these fields by their bold and colored font

Types of System Fields:

Title This is required for every application and cannot be removed from your selected fields
Teaser Also know as the short description, this is used by some widgets and leveraged in many application page layouts
File upload Allows you to attach a single file to an item, you can turn on file versioning under edit
Graphic Allows you to attach an image to an item, you can change the maximum image and thumbnail size under edit
Review date Allow/force users to define a review date for their item
Publish date Allow users to set a publish date in the future
Archive date Allow users to set an archive date when the item will be removed and visible only in the archive 
Tags Allows users to set Tags. Note that this needs to be enabled on the Application settings to show.
Ratings Allows users to rate the Item. Note that this needs to be enabled on the Application settings to show.
Comments Allows users to enter comments. Note that this needs to be enabled on the Application settings to show.
Created By Shows who created the Item.
Created Date Shows the created date of the Item.
Modified By Shows who modified the Item.
Modified Date Shows the modified date of the Item.
Summary Shows a summary of the Item. 
 
Title behavior
Depending on the type of application you are building, it may be appropriate to change the behavior of the title field. For example, if your application is only used to store documents then you can alter the title to direct to the file itself. This will leave a [View Details] link underneath to take the user to the item details.
