Installing your Test Intranet Site (Railo)
Step One: Getting Started
Navigate to the location on your production server where the Intranet has been installed. The default installation location is C:\inetpub\wwwroot\Intranet however your site may be installed in a different location.
To confirm the location of your Intranet site, you can open IIS Manager, right click on the Intranet website (or Default Website), and click Basic Settings... in the far-right pane. The intranet directory location will be defined in the Physical Path field.
For the purposes of this document, we will assume that your live intranet site is installed at the default C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Intranet location.
The test intranet site will have a local path of C:\inetpub\wwwroot\TestIntranet.
Note: If your live site is running at the root (C:\inetpub\wwwroot\Intranet) you will need to create a second website in IIS opening at a different port (Port 8080) or host name. The website will have a Physical Path of C:\inetpub\wwwroot\TestIntranet.
Step Two: Copying Your Existing Intranet
- Create the following new folder: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\TestIntranet
- Copy the contents of your existing Intranet folder (C:\inetpub\wwwroot\Intranet)
- Paste these files into your new Testintranet folder (C:\inetpub\wwwroot\TestIntranet)
Step Three: Adding the Test Site Customized File
Download the customized test intranet file, here. You will need to log in using your client credentials to download this file. The username will be the email address of the primary contact associated with your account. The password will be the product serial number found on the admin > Site Settings are of the intranet site.
Extract the contents of the downloaded ZIP package to:
Step Four: Copying your Existing Intranet Database
Open SQL Server Management Studio. The recommended way of copying the live database is to create a new database called TestIntranetConnections, backup your existing production database (generally called IntranetConnections), and restore the production database to the new TestIntranetConnections database.
For more information on creating a backup of your IntranetConnections database, please view our Creating a SQL Database Backup article.
Step Five: Creating your Test SQL Data Source
Log into your Railo Web Admin site:
Please replace the [intranetsiteaddress] portion of the above link with the appropriate DNS name or IP address of your test site location. If this was setup as a new IIS site, you will need to set a Railo Web Administrator password.
Once authenticated, go to Services > Data Sources
Confirm that you now have a TestSQLFunctions datasource.
Step Six: Configure your Railo Mapping
Log into your Railo administration website. Your Railo administration site is accessible at the following address:
Please replace the [intranetsiteaddress] portion of the above link with the appropriate DNS name or IP address of your server.
Once authenticated, go to Archives & Resources > Mappings
Leave and re-visit the Mappings page to ensure that the new mapping has been successfully added.
Step Seven: Accessing your Test Site and Updating the Location
