Resetting the Railo Web and Server Admin passwords

To reset your Railo Web password, please try the following steps:

1) Check your Intranet installation directory. (eg : ..\inetpub\wwwroot\WEB-INF\railo\

2) Look for a file called 'railo-web.xml.cfm'

3) Open this with a text editor

4) You should see something similar to the following examples near the top of the file you just opened:

Example 1:

<railo-configuration password="f81f36bb12db1f7f6b2a27608aac997b63ee7c8c97af97e58c0ac2f8d702413b" version="2.0">

Example 2:

4b) Delete all the values that are bolded above so it looks like  hspw=”” password="" salt=”"

5) Save the file

6a) From your webserver, open Task Manager and look for a process called 'java.exe' (Might need to show processses for all users)
6b) kill this process

6c) If you are on 13.0+, look in Services for Railo Server and restart this service.

7) Navigate back to the railo admin URL. (might take a minute or two to load)

http://[intranet server name, domain name or ip]/railo-context/admin/web.cfm

8) You should now be prompted to set a new Password.



To reset the Railo Server Admin password:

1) Open the file C:\railo\lib\railo-server\context\railo-server.xml (default install location)

2) Look for the line that has --><cfRailoConfiguration

3) Remove the text indicated below:

--><cfRailoConfiguration hspw="REMOVE BETWEEN QUOTES" salt="REMOVE BETWEEN QUOTES" version="4.2"><cfabort/>

* If you also see pw="something", please remove the content between the quotes


4) Restart the railo service

5) Access the Railo Server Admin page using the following URL: http://[intranet server name, domain name or ip]/railo-context/admin/server.cfm

6) Here you will be prompted to set a new password
