Update your Test site with your Current Production Site's Data (ColdFusion)

After making many changes to your Production Site, you may wish to refresh your Test Site so that it has the same data to use for testing Patches/Upgrades:

Step One: Copying Your Existing Intranet
Step Two: Copying your Existing Intranet Database
Step Three: Creating your Test SQL Data Source (Prod and Test on same server only - if the cfregdn file was replaced)
Step Four: Accessing your Test Site and Updating the Location

Step One: Copying Your Production Intranet files

  1. Copy your cfregdn file from your Testintranet folder to your server's desktop - this file is located in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\TestIntranet\Admin
  2. Copy the contents of your existing Intranet folder (C:\inetpub\wwwroot\Intranet)
  3. Replace your existing Testintranet folder (C:\inetpub\wwwroot\TestIntranet) with the new copy of your Production files
  4. Copy the cfregdn file from your server's desktop back into the C:\inetpub\wwwroot\TestIntranet\Admin folder (this file contains your ColdFusion

Step Two: Copying your Existing Intranet Database
Open SQL Server Management Studio or Enterprise Manager. Copy your production database, generally called IntranetConnections. The recommended way of doing so is to create a new database called TestIntranetConnections, backup your existing production database, and restore the production database to the new TestIntranetConnections database.

For more information on creating a backup of your IntranetConnections database, please view our Creating a SQL Database Backup article.

Step Three: Creating your Test SQL Data Source on the same server as Production (Optional: This can be done if your cfregdn file was not copied in Step One)

Log into your ColdFusion Admin site:

http://[intranetsiteaddress]/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm

Please replace the [intranetsiteaddress] portion of the above link with the appropriate DNS name or IP address of your server.

Once authenticated, go to Data and Services -> Data Sources

Confirm that you now have two datasources. SQLFunctions and TestSQLFunctions.

Step Four: Accessing your Test Site and Updating the Location

Visit your test site by going to the following address:

http://[intranetsiteaddress]/TestIntranet

Login and go here:

http://[intranetsiteaddress]/TestIntranet/Admin/SiteSettings/site_settings.cfm?tabidx=1&reset_locations=true

You should see the Drive and Web locations under System Information updated to reflect the test site address

Your data should look similar to that of the current production site.
