Did You Know... Store and View Videos in a Document Library

Did you know you can let users view videos stored inside a Document Library?

A document library can store many different types of files. This video demonstrates how you can let users view videos directly in the document library without having to download them first.

This video demonstrates:

  • What a video preview can look like when viewing an item.
  • How to insert an HTML 5 video tag to allow playing of an uploaded video

Notes

The HTML 5 video tag used in this video is shown below:

<video controls="" height="320" width="640" src="/Intranet/Apps/files5019/Project Site.mp4" ></video>

To update the src URL to match you item, replace "5019" with the menuID shown in the address URL when viewing your item, and replace "Project Site.mp4" with the name of your uploaded file. The same code can also be embedded in a page, to play a videos stored in your Document Library.

HTML 5 also has an <audio> tag for playing sound files.
