The Weather widget was previously used for displaying the current Weather Underground forecast for a specific location. We've received notification from Weather Underground that they've scheduled the end of life for this feature as of February 15th, 2019.
As we’re approaching the holidays, we’ve made the decision to turn off this service as of December 17th. This decision was made to allow for enough time prior to the holidays to support any questions or issues that may come up as a result of this change.
Please note that the termination of the service won't remove the 'weather' widget option as an available widget. We'll be addressing this in a future patch to remove the code from the software. There are no plans to replace this widget in the future.
Please remove this widget prior to December 17th to prevent any issues (e.g. error on widget, possible loss of page access, etc.) once the service has been shut off.
What does this mean for me?
If you have a weather widget on your home page or any site landing pages, this will cause your pages to encounter an error within this widget.
Should the error cause your intranet to become inaccessible, please contact our Support team (support@intranetconnections.com) and they'll be able to provide a script to resolve the errors you may experience from this change.
If you’re not using the built-in weather widget, but a custom code found from an external source other than Weather Underground, you won’t be impacted by this change.
What can I do?
- Remove the Weather Underground widget from your intranet
- Upgrade to the newest version of Intranet Connections and take advantage of the enhanced user experience
An Alternative Option
If you'd like to have a weather widget, there are free websites that provide widget code, such as Weather Widget IO, to display on your intranet. To add this code to your intranet, add an External: Custom Code widget to your widget page, paste the code into the box provided and click 'Save Widgets' from the options at the bottom of the page.
Before adding custom code to a primary page or navigation (e.g. Home page, left navigation column, etc), please test this out on a test widget page first.
Please note that we don't provide support for custom code.
